Room 7 week 10 Term 3 2014

Kia Ora Whanau!

Week 10 and the end of Term 3! What a busy week it has been.

This week we went to Room 22 to view the year 8 technology group models. They have been researching ideas and surveying the whole school to find out what would be the best things to do to make the school hall better for everyone to use.

We really liked their ideas! They looked colourful and interesting.

Also happening this week was a very important netball game!
It was the Teachers versus the Students. Who do you think won?
You are right, it was the teachers! But everyone put in 150% effort! It was lots of fun to watch!

And then there was the Amazing Hip Hop dance performance at TAPAC at Western Springs College! Wow! Those dancers were spectacular! We all want to be hip hop dancers now!

We even got to ask them questions about who inspired them to dance and how they made their dances, and some people got to go on the stage and dance too. Even Mrs Hanline, Mr Timo and Miss Leona! Then we had a photo with them. It was awesome!

Have a great holiday everyone, see you in two weeks!

Room 7 Week 9 Term 3 2014

Kia Ora Whanau!

We have been very busy this week completing all our work for our portfolios. We are looking forward to sharing them with you on Friday next week.

We have also been reflecting on our Step up, Step out! Why dance? inquiry.

We think that we worked really well with our dance crews to create, practice and perform our dances.

We think that our groups helped each other to make it a success.

We are very pleased with the way that we answered our question, which was, How can we tell a story with dance? We said that we studied dances and told our own story and used different dance moves to tell different parts of our story.

We liked having dance teachers come to our class and help us learn new dance moves and teach us the Sasa.

We felt very proud when we performed our dance in front of our parents and whanau.

We want to say a big THANK YOU to all of you for coming to watch us.

Room 7 week 8 Term 3 2014

Welcome to week 8! Malo e lelei! It is Tongan Language Week!

We will also perform our Inquiry dance for the whole school.

We have been practicing and practicing! We are ready!

On Monday we were the first on the stage and we wowed them!

'How can we tell a story through dance?'
We wrote our own story of  'The Gingerbread Crew' and created dance moves to tell our story to the audience.
The Gingerbread Crew woke up one day and wanted to learn to dance. They went to the Robot Crew and learned some moves, but they tried to eat the Gingerbread Crew! They went to the Chicken Crew and learned some moves, but they tried to eat the Gingerbread Crew! They went to the Hip Hop Crew and learned some moves, but they tried to eat the Gingerbread Crew! They went to the Sasa Crew and learned some moves and made friends with them. Then they got all the dance crews to learn the Sasa and make friends.

After Room 8 and Room 9 had their turn, we all did the SPS haka!

Wils and Sharrita introduced our dance.

On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday we watched other classes perform their dances. It was awesome!

On Friday the Tongan Group did some beautiful dances and provided a fabulous feast for the teachers!

What a wonderful week!

Room 7 Week 7 Term 3 2014

Kia Ora Whanau!

This week we have continued to practice our inquiry dance that answers our question. Our question is, How can we tell a story through dance?

We were very lucky to watch a professional dance group that also tell a story through dance. They are called 'Revolution', and they told a story about bullying and talked to us about helping bullies and victims of bullying. We liked their dance moves and singing!

We also had our last dance workshop with Matua Sefa and Whaea Runa to learn the Sasa. After assembly on Friday, we all went to Spartan Court and performed the Sasa. We were even filmed! It sounded and looked amazing! Go SPS!
