Room 6 Week 6 Term 3 2013

Hi Everyone! What a wonderful week we have had in Room 6 this week!

Firstly we finished our fabulous Picasso style self portraits. The concentration we showed was amazing. You could have heard a pin drop in our class. We worked really hard on choosing the colours we wanted to go with our patterns and wow they look great! See for yourself.

Then, we were lucky enough to have Swiss and Charlie come and do a quick assembly to promote Tongan Language Week that is happening next week. They really wowed the crowd and we got to sing with them too.

On Thursday we got to learn Ripper Rugby with Hamish. It was raining that day so we went into the hall. Some of us were moving so fast we are a blur in the photo!

And all this was extra to all our other learning. What a great week!

Room 6 Week 4 Term 3 2013

Hello Everyone!

What an exciting week we have had! We got to go on the brand new Junior Playground and work with Whaea Dagmar to make our very own Pablo Picasso creations!

We love going round and round and round and round and round and round on the Whirligig!

We love going up, up, up, up and over on the Spider Web!

And we love going up the Ramp, over the Bridge, down the Slide and up the Ladder!
We love our new Playground!

On Thursday at 9am in Room 6 we listened and learned about artists with Whaea Dagmar. We learned about shapes and colours that artists use to show how they are feeling.

We also learned about how artists use patterns to show their feelings too. We drew our faces and showed a feeling on our face. We looked at Pablo Picasso's faces. Then we used some shapes on our face and chose lines and patterns to draw in the spaces we had made. We wanted to show a feeling.

Next week we will be choosing our colours for making our pictures even more interesting.

Room 6 Week 3 Term 3 2013

Hello everyone!
This week we have been watching the progress of our new Junior Playground! Wow, it is looking amazing! We can't wait to get on there!

See what you think.

We have also viewed a video of a teacher in the 1960s who did an experiment with her class about changing the way they feel about each other. It was called the 'Brown eyes/Blue eyes' experiment.
We had a lot to say about how the children reacted to the changes.
Then we were so lucky to have Ercan and Aaliyah from Room 20 come and talk to us about an experiment they did in there classroom that was very similar to that one.

They told us what  happened and how they felt about it. They said it is something they will always remember. They said that people should be accepted for the person they are, not by anything else.

Thank you Ercan and Aaliyah!

Room 6 Week 2 Term 3 2013

Kia ora whanau! What a busy week we have had!

We had a fabulous trip to Auckland Zoo on Monday. After a rainy beginning it turned into a beautiful day.
We go to see lots of animals including giraffes, ostriches, rhinos, lions, hippos, cheetahs, meerkats, native birds, eels and many more.
We had a great learning session with Sue in the Education Room. She told us about how zoos were in the past and what the cages used to be like. We also got to touch animal skins and skeletons of animals that have died of old age.
We really like the new habitats that have been created to make the animals feel like they are in the wild.

We are very excited about looking at the changes that have been happening at Auckland Zoo on Monday.

Right here at Sylvia Park School there will be changes too!

Here are some pictures of our old playground.
