What an awesome week! We now have a new name for our syndicate - Pohutukawa - for the year threes.
On Tuesday the whole school assembled on Spartan Court to begin our Naming Day. We had a karakia lead by Matua Hemi Dale. Then we moved like a hikoi to go to each naming place.
The year ones and twos are now Kowhai:
We are Pohutukawa:
We sang a song called He kakano ahau - Its words mean: I am a seed, Scattered from Rangiatea, And I can never be lost. I am a seed, born of greatness. Descended from a line of chiefs.
Then we went to Te Puna Waiora for their naming.
Next we went to the middle school, years four, five and six. They are now Te Manawa.
And finally we went to the senior school, years seven and eight. They are now Te Ropu o nga Manukura. Then we all did the school haka. It was awesome!
Have a wonderful holiday everyone and we will see you all next term!
