Week 12 Term 1 2013

Reflection time
This week we have reflected on our process of inquiry for, 'If you want traction you have to take action!' and our question 'What is your path for change?'

We have had lots of discussion about what we found out and our actions taken as a result of our findings.

We are all very happy with our research and we feel that our actions will help make a change to slow down the traffic in Ruawai Rd.

Results!

First we want to say again a big THANKYOU to all the people who voted on our two options of a Chicane or a Speed Hump.

The votes have been counted and the results are as follows:

Chicane:  148
Speed Hump: 191

A speed hump is the most wanted calming treatment for Ruawai Road.

We will be writing to the council to request that speed humps are installed in Ruawai Rd to slow the traffic down and make it safer for us to get to school.

Week 11 Term 1 - Community Consultation!

Today was Community Consultation Day.
We set up our models in the showing the information about speeding cars on Ruawai Rd, the calming treatments we think are best and our voting system.
Then lots of people from our community came to listen and decide which option they thought was the best and to vote.
It was very exciting!

We felt very proud of our presentation.

We got people to try the cars on our speed humpand chicane.

All kinds of people from our community came to vote, even Whaea Barb!

And parents of students at our school.

And all the students got to vote too.

Then we went to see the senior's presentations and we got to vote for the option we thought was the best.
It felt great to help make choices for our community that will keep us safe.

Term 1 week 10 2013 - The Rucksman!

It has been a short week but we have learned a lot.

This week we did our Kiwi Kick training with Rebecca and Caitlin.

We learned how to do the Ruck.

Vin and Brooklyn went first to try to jump up with one leg and tap the ball.

We had three people in our group. One was the referee and two were the rucksmen. Brooklyn was the referee and Moehau and Armel were the rucksmen.

We played the buddy game. We had to jump over our buddy.

We had to lie down flat like a pancake.

We had to run around outside the circle.

We had to do the piggy back.

It was awesome! We love learning Kiwikick!
