Room 7 Week 8 Term 4 2014

Kia Ora Whanau! What an exciting week we have had voting for our new school leaders!

On Friday we went to the hall and Whaea Emma explained what we were going to do. Then the helpers showed us the voting papers - one for the leaders and one for the referendum. The referendum this year was 'Do you think we should have a School Council?'

Then some other helpers took us to the polling booth so we could tick our choices on the voting paper. Next we folded the papers and put them in the voting boxes.

Even Ms Hanline and all the other teachers and staff got to vote too!

It was very exciting! Now we have to wait until Prizegiving on Monday to find out the winners! Good luck to all the campaigners!

Room 7 week 7 Term 4 2014

Kia Ora Whanau!

What a great week for being Sunsmart Scientists!
This week we carried out an experiment to find out which colour is hottest and which colour is coolest in the sun.
We put some water in three cans and wrapped black, white and green paper around them.
We each hypothesised, (guessed), which would be the hottest.
We used a thermometer to measure how hot the water was - it was 2 on the thermometer in each one.
Then we put them out in the sun for 30 minutes.
Next we put the thermometer into each one to measure their temperature.
Black was 4; Green was 3.2 and White was 3.
We concluded that black was the hottest in the sun.

On Friday we will be voting to choose our school leaders for next year. The year 7 students who are campaigning came to our class to persuade us to vote for them.

We are thinking carefully about who we will choose.

On Thursday it was good weather for golf and Coach Larissa is still helping us learn how to play.
We are getting better at swinging the club and hitting the ball to the target.

Great job Room 7! Remember your sun hat - no hat, no play!

We are looking forward to sharing our work with our whanau at 3-way Conferences on Thursday 11th December, see you there!

Room 7 Week 6 Term 4 2014

Kia Ora Whanau!

This week has been very exciting for us!

We have been training hard for our Cross Country races and we finally got to run them in front of the parents!

We did really well! Great job Everyone!

Look how fast we can run!

We had to go round the field and over some chairs, then through the cones and past the hall, then up past the playground and the kindy. Next we went up the driveway and along the footpath, then through the gate, down the hill and around the corner. Next we ran round the field some more and over some more chairs and then around the field more times. Finally we crossed the finish line!

Room 7 Week 5 Term 4 2014

Kia Ora Whanau!

This week we have been continuing to learn how to write a procedural text, that is a piece of writing that tells how to do or make something.

Thank you everyone for providing the fruit for our fruit salad! It was really yummy!

Here is our procedure for making it:

How to make fruit salad
What you need: a large bowl, a spoon, a knife, a cutting board,
                          all kinds of fruit

What you do:

1.   Wash your hands.
2.   Get the knife and peel the kiwifruit.
3.   Cut it into pieces and put it in the bowl.
4.   Get the knife and peel the orange.
5.   Cut it into pieces and put it in the bowl.
6.   Peel the banana and cut it into pieces into the bowl.
7.   Get a knife and peel the pineapple.
8.   Cut it into pieces and put it in the bowl.
9.   Get a knife and cut up the apple into pieces into the bowl.
10. Get the grapes and put them in the bowl one at a time.
11. Cut up any other fruit you have and put it in the bowl.
12. Get the spoon and mix it up.
13. Eat it!

14. Share it with your friends.

We thought Whaea Barb might like to try it and we were right!

She loved it as much as we did! Can you tell?

Great work Room 7!

Room 7 Week 4 Term 4 2014

Kia Ora Whanau!

This week we started training for our Cross Country races. First we walked the whole course from Room 5, up past the kindy, along the footpath, down the hill, around the field and back to our lines.
Then we started on the field by our age lines and ran around and around and around, as many laps as we could do!
We will keep training in the next few weeks so we can be ready to race!

Well done Room 7! That was a lot of running!

We also did our Golf training with Coach Larissa. She taught us about honesty this week and hitting the ball with just the right force to get it to our buddy.

It is our turn this Friday to do the Sunsmart Science Quiz versus Room 8 in Assembly. Wish us luck!
Have a fun weekend everyone, be safe with any left over fireworks!
