Week 3 Term 2 2013

Hello to all our whanau and friends!

This week we have been looking at where water comes from and where it goes.

We have discovered that there is a water cycle that just keeps on going all over the Earth.

We also found out that water keeps on changing its state, i.e. it goes from a liquid to a gas to a liquid to a solid to a liquid to a gas and so on.

Here is our Water Cycle

Term 2 week 2 2013

What an exciting week we have had in Room 6!

We have begun to carry out experiments to find out about water.

This week we have investigated how ice melts on different colours and what happens when it is put in a metal or plastic container.

We noticed that water starts to form on the outside of the metal dish after a short while. It looked like your breath does on a window.

We also investigated how fast water dries on a paper towel. We tried four different people's hands and watched them dry.

We found that Tupou's hand was the fastest to dry. We think it dried first because he had a smaller amount of water on his than the other people.

We also watched the unveiling of our special carpark sign. It was made by Room 1 and 2 as part of their inquiry about getting to school safely.

Term 2 Week 1 2013

Welcome back to school as we begin Term 2 of 2013! I hope everyone has had a lovely break over the holidays and is now refreshed and re-energised to begin learning once again!

This week we have begun our new Inquiry.

CONSERVE, PRESERVE, it's what we all DESERVE!
To keep the flow of H2O, what's our way to go?

As part of our tuning in to the topic we have viewed the movie Rango and discussed how important water was in the story.

We have also watched the Tina and Tane Water Show and talked about keeping our drains clean.
